“The road to success is always under construction.” Lily Tomlin
( American Comedian. Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2003, b. 1939)
The floor in our classroom is always under construction. This time, the masters have chosen the tools and they are expressing their ideas in the language of blocks. While a few days ago the cars were going on ramps and the focus was speed and altitude, today the focus was building a road that is soooooooooo long.
We started adding block after block. We were curious about how long the road was going to be and the answer came right away: we started on the carpet, went under the sand table all the day the door.
The children said: 6 feet, 18 feet, long, too long.
One thing we love about blocks is that there is no right or wrong response. Our imagination and creativity says it all. Building with blocks helps children in developing hand-eye coordination and, on the social level, it brings children together. We found our builders, and once the road was done it invited all the children to run their cars along it.
